What's an Attachment?

An attachment is a separate file that you, well, "attach" to an email you're going to send. Folks use them to augment their message. For example, let's say I'm writing a letter to my mom and am telling her about my latest boyfriend. I can't find the words to describe all of his tattoos and piercings, so I want to "attach" a picture of him to help her understand how absolutely groovy he is. :-)

Or I want to email my boss to tell her how far sales had climbed since our last campaign, which I headed up. I could just give her a list of percentages, but it's more effective for me to "attach" a PowerPoint graph so she can really see how great an employee I am.

Newer email clients nowadays have a way to attach a file to the email you send. To learn how to use this feature, check out the Help menu on your computer screen after you open your email client.
