What's an Address Book?

Here's the situation: let's say your dad finally got online. This is great news, but you can never remember his email address because it's so darned long! Let's say it's something like foobar@servername.reallylongdomainname.com. What a pain that is to type!

Here's where address books come in handy. Address books allow you to assign "nicknames" to each of the long email addresses (or short ones, for that matter) that you don't want to have to type over and over again.

For example, you could assign foobar@servername.reallylongdomainname.com the nickname of dad, so that all you have to do is type "dad" in the To: field of the email you're sending, and your dad's email address will appear. Handy, eh?

Beware, though, that you only send email to nicknames you've already specified. If you haven't set up your address book to associate "dad" with your dad's email address, typing "dad" in the To: field will result in you sending email to dad@BauerCom.Net, which would result in a lot of confusion for the owner of that account.
